一、在英國英語中，通常可有兩種表達法。即

二、在美國英語中，通常只採用一種表達法。

注意：寫法中，日期與月份之間不可加逗號。寫法中，年份前的逗號可以省略。寫法中，代表日期的序數詞詞尾（-st,-nd, -rd或-th ）均可省略。寫法中，序數詞前的定冠詞the，一般可省略；在讀法中，該定冠詞一般亦省略。

三、無論英國英語或美國英語，在需要突出年月日的場合（尤其是在正式文件中），均可採用以下表達法。

四、書寫時，還可以完全採用數字表示。這時，英國英語與美國英語在表達上大相徑庭。

對比以上可以清楚看出，兩種表達式存在嚴重差異，即在月份和日期方面完全顛倒。因此，在用純數字模式的場合，極易產生混淆。

五、為避免書寫時由上述方面的差異所帶來的混淆，近來有人主張，在純數字模式下，月份統一採用羅馬數字表示。

六、不論英國英語或美國英語，有時出於需要，在年月日表達的同時標明“星期幾”，按習慣應遵循“‘星期’在前，‘年月日’在後”的原則。
